There are plenty of myths about electric vehicles in Nigeria, and at Saglev, we’re debunking them one car at a time.
Recently, we took the MHero 917 head-to-head with a 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63 in a real-world test from our showroom in Victoria Island, Lagos, all the way to Ibadan. The results shocked everyone… well, everyone except our boss.
Joining us on the trip were tech reviewers and car enthusiasts, Valor and Izzi Boye. We kicked things off by charging the MHero and fueling the G-Wagon.
- MHero 917 battery: 195 kWh
Charging cost (Band A): ₦32017.50 - G-Wagon tank: 100 litres
Fuel cost: ₦91,000
Right out of the gate, the MHero saved almost 50% on energy cost. Round one — MHero wins.
The Drag Race That Settled It
We headed to a quiet spot in Ikeja for a 0–100 km/h drag race. Four rounds. Same conditions. Same drivers. No gimmicks.
And guess what?
The MHero 917 won every single round.
Yes — the electric SUV outran the legendary twin-turbo V8 G-Wagon, repeatedly.
Here’s the performance breakdown:
| Feature | MHERO 917 | Mercedes-AMG G63 | |
| Horsepower | 1,088 hp | 577–585 hp | |
| Torque | 1,400 Nm | 850 Nm | |
| 0–100 km/h | 4.2 sec | ~4.3 sec |
Summary:
- The fully electric MHERO 917 produces almost double the horsepower of the G63.
- It’s also the fastest in acceleration.
- The G63, despite its powerful V8, simply couldn’t keep up.
The Lagos–Ibadan Cruise
After the drag race, both cars hit the expressway for the cruise to Ibadan.
The road was smooth, the convoy had drones in the air, and both vehicles arrived at the same time.
But in Ibadan? The MHero stole the show.
Passersby couldn’t get enough of its futuristic, militaristic design. While the G-Wagon boomed with its trademark V8 roar, the MHero’s presence alone had people stopping to ask, “Which car be this?”
So… Is the MHero Faster Than the G-Wagon?
Yes. And not by propaganda — by performance.
The MHero 917 outpaces, out-torques, and out-accelerates the G-Wagon G63.
And when it comes to cost?
- Brand new MHero 917 starts at about ₦213 million
- Tokunbo G-Wagon costs between ₦300 million and ₦400 million
You already know which one gives better value for your pocket.
