SAGLEV Electromobility Nigeria has announced a bold production target of 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) per year as it ramps up operations at its Lagos-based assembly plant.
Speaking during a facility tour, Gbenga Samuel Faleye, Chairman and CEO of the company, revealed that SAGLEV’s current installed capacity stands at 2,600 vehicles annually on a single-shift basis.
However, the plant is designed to support two and a half shifts per week, allowing the company to scale production to 10,000 vehicles per year without expansion.
“We are just beginning to roll out, but the infrastructure and training are already in place to reach 10,000 vehicles a year in this single plant,” Faleye said. “This does not include additional facilities that could be established in Abuja or Kano.”
On the other hand, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) lauded SAGLEV for aligning with the Federal Government’s initiative to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in Nigeria.
The commendation was made by Joseph Osanipin, NADDC Director-General, who was represented by Felicia Oyegbolu, the council’s Deputy Director and Head of Press and Protocol, during the tour in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025.
“This is to showcase the activities of the automotive industry to the whole world. Nigerians do not even know much about electric vehicles, they do not know that we have many assemblers in the country, that is the essence of the visit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Akinwunmi Olukeye, Keystone Bank’s Head of Business Sustainability, declared support for the plant, citing the environmental and economic advantages of electric vehicles. “This is a smart, future-focused move that aligns with Nigeria’s sustainability goals,” he said.
